Ask anyone you speak to if they want to be successful and they will likely say yes. And, what does that really mean? How does one achieve success? I thought about this long and hard for most of my career and personal life. I discovered something profound as I reached my 40s, I was already successful! Not to mention, I had been successful all my life. I came to this realization when it occurred to me success simply "is," and we experience it every day. The problem is that most of us define success based on how much money we have or material stuff we own. We have been socially conditioned to think success is a destination, when its really a journey. Yes, success can be an accumulation of wealth and material items at the surface level. However, lasting, real success is deeper and more substantial.
As such, I have also realized that success is a mindset as much as it is an action. This important understanding can get lost in our society because we are taught that only those who have power, status and money are considered a success. I am happy to say, that is not the case. Success is what you say it is for your life and how you approach the results of your efforts.

Since success "is," here is how you can achieve real success:
1. Define success for yourself. Live your life by your values and what you feel success is for you. There are going to be people who do not have your best interest at heart. There are going to be people who love you wholeheartedly. But, each person, friend or foe, will have their own perception about what success is and is not. So, you must know what it is for yourself so that you can live it, experience it and appreciate success on your own terms.
2. Ignore haters and naysayers. There are going to be discouragers and people who are jealous of you. It is a part of life. They will tell you your idea of success is stupid or unrealistic. They may say you have not reached success yet. But you can’t listen to them. Surround yourself by encouragers. Develop a support circle or tribe that loves you and know that each day you take breath is a sign of how successful you are.
3. Change your mindset about success. Most people see success as an endgame. Its not. Success is moment-to-moment. Success is the journey of various experiences, lessons learned, and opportunities found and missed. In truth, success is how you handle yourself throughout life. It is not finite or limited by the material world. Success is expansive and inclusive of mind, body and soul. Success is what your mind realizes it to be.
Now that you know how to achieve success, celebrate how successful you are right now! You can continue to enjoy success every moment of each day from this point forward.
